There will be actual buttons in stock, but not yet. I’m going to start with the Kona cotton solids and work my way through existing stock, hoping to have it up to date by the time new stock arrives mid-week. I reckon it’s going to take me most of the week to get everything in, since that pesky day job gets in the way.

The bigcartel shop will disappear at some point over the next couple of days, if you want anything please contact me via the facebook page and I’ll try and keep everything running smoothly

Today, of course, is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand. Not a day for glorification of war, but a day for honouring all our war heroes – the ones who didn’t come back, and also those who were lucky enough to return.

There are a few things that say ANZAC Day to me.

Rosemary

“Since ancient times this aromatic herb has been believed to have properties to improve the memory. Perhaps because of this, rosemary became an emblem of both fidelity and remembrance in literature and folklore. Traditionally, sprigs of rosemary are worn on ANZAC Day and sometimes on Remembrance Day, and are usually handed out by Legacy and the RSL. Rosemary has particular significance for Australians, as it is found growing wild on the Gallipoli peninsula.”

The Dawn Service

“The Dawn Service observed on ANZAC Day has its origins in a military routine which is still followed by the Australian Army today. During battle, the half-light of dawn was one of the most favoured times for an attack. Soldiers in defensive positions were woken in the dark before dawn, so by the time first light crept across the battlefield they were awake, alert, and manning their weapons; this is still known as the “stand-to”. As dusk is equally favourable for attacks, the stand-to was repeated at sunset…”

Old blokes playing two-up

Diggers in Afghanistan Playing Two Up

The people I remember playing two-up on ANZAC Day (the only day you can legally play it) are the older men and returned servicemen, who would have a few beers after the march and play two-up in the beer garden of the local pub. There are two-up sets available, but I remember it being played with two coins (two-bob bits?) and a comb when I was small

My Uncle Bruce will correct me if I’m wrong.

The photo above is of soldiers in Afghanistan playing after Dawn Service and is from Australian Broadcasting Corporation. A more comprehensive explanation on the AWM Site.

Apart from personal recollection, I have drawn most of the information here from the Australian War Memorial, which provides comprehensive information for anyone interested in the Australian Armed Forces, miliary and family history.

So, in the true sense, I don’t actually have a stash. There is certainly nothing secret about my fabric habit.

In the same vein as the squirrel, though, I seem to think (insert Game of Thrones reference here) ~ Winter is Coming .

I have been trying to sort out my fabrics, there is a serious cull coming. There has to be, because you see, I also have a shop. In my dining room, which is also my sewing room. I can’t begin to make it clear to you just how bad it is in there at the moment.

So, today I will show you just part of my personal stash, this isn’t a “stock” post.

and a few of my blues:

and some of the precuts I have come across in various tubs and boxes. Believe me, there are more.

There are tubs and tubs and boxes and cupboards full of fabric. Then there are the 200-odd bolts of shop stock. In my dining room. You may have spotted that I have a little Denyse Schmidt addiction – whether chain store or premium ranges I love them all. I’ve been unpacking one of the tubs of DS Joann/Spotlight fabric, that’s why I’m a little bit late with this post (that and I don’t know how to do a linky party, so I’ve posted a question in the QCA group.

What’s your fabric addiction?

PS: Sorry about the photos. Using my phone, which was going flat.
